BEFORE THE OTHERS SEE IT all-night pre-release film marathon with All In UJ at Kino Pod Baranami

Kino Pod Baranami and the All In UJ student organisation present an all-night film marathon which will take place on Friday, the 18th of March. Three promising pre-release movies will be shown: unconventional family drama Louder Than Bombs, Oscar-nominated French-Turkish Mustang and unusual biopic of the scandalous Italian director - Pasolini. All three films come to theaters in April, therefore the audience of the all-night event will see them as one of the first in Krakow.

The feeling of excitement that accompanies participation in a pre-release film screening is well known to every movie enthusiast. To see the film before others see it - this thought thrills most of the cinephiles. Kino Pod Baranami in cooperation with the All In UJ student organisation offers a triple dose of positive emotions - three pre-release movies will be screened at next week’s all-night film marathon. The programme includes the following films: Mustang - the debut of a young Turkish-French director which won the hearts of the audience in Cannes and triggered a lively discussion on women's rights; Pasolini - a tribute to one of the masters of Italian cinema whose character is played by Willem Dafoe; and Louder Than Bombs - the third film by acclaimed Norwegian director Joachim Trier (Oslo, August 31st), nominated for the Palme d'Or at last year's Cannes Film Festival and awarded for Best Director at the Stockholm Film Festival.

ABOUT THE FILMS:

LOUDER THAN BOMBS | LOUDER THAN BOMBS

dir. Joachim Trier, Denmark/France/Norway 2015, 109’

Cannes Film Festival 2015

Three years after her unexpected death, the preparation of an exhibition celebrating the famous war photographer Laura Freed (Isabelle Huppert) brings her husband and their two sons together for the first time in years. When an unsettling secret resurfaces, the three men are forced to look at each other and themselves in a new light, redefining their innermost needs and desires.

A rich picture of the family’s dreams, disappointments and secrets is gradually developed through non-linear fragments of shared memories, daily challenges and strained attempts to coexist. With his signature hypnotic, yet often jolting and exhilarating storytelling pulse, Joachim Trier weaves a tapestry of cherrypicked details and dreamscapes, combining arresting imagery with a relentless exposure of human nature.

It’s the beginning of the summer. In a village in the north of Turkey, Lale and her four sisters come home from school, innocently playing with boys. The supposed debauchery of their games causes a scandal with unintended consequences. The family home slowly turns into a prison, classes on housework and cooking replace school, and marriages begin to be arranged. The five sisters, driven by the same desire for freedom, fight back against the limits imposed on them.

PASOLINI | PASOLINI

dir. Abel Ferrara, Belgium/France/Italy 2014, 89’

Controversial director Abel Ferrara pays tribute to one of the masters of Italian cinema. Pasolini has little in common with conventional biopics, however. The film reconstructs the final hours in the life of the director of The Decameron. The audience meet the protagonist just as he is putting the finishing touches on the scandalous Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom and is getting set to begin work on a new film.He meets a young man and takes him to the beach at Ostia. The unfortunate trip ends in the director's tragic death. Contrary to the expectations of some, Ferrara does not concern himself with the conspiracy theories that surrounded the event. As is his habit, he combines the sacred and the profane in portraying Pasolini as a self-destructive genius and a secular martyr. Footage from the life of the eponymous hero is combined on-screen with scenes inspired by his unfinished screenplay, Porno-Teo-Kolossal. Numerous people who had worked with the director also appear in Pasolini, including the star of many of his films, Ninneto Davoli.
